Santosha...

Santosha - the sanskrit word for contentment - reflects our firm belief that we have all we need inside to live a happy, fulfilled life. Our retreats, whether our adventures take us inward or outward, help you to unearth that joyful capacity deep within you and learn to excavate it in any circumstance. Take a break, give yourself some space, breathe deep, move freely and explore with us!

Opening to Awareness

How many of us reminisce about our younger days when life was new and exciting? While we can never return to how life was then (and perhaps some of us are glad for this!), the practice of awareness can turn an ordinary moment into an extraordinary one.

Yoga philosophy teaches us that awareness never changes, but simply notices change.  Awareness is the part of us that remains whole no matter what circumstance life brings.  The quality of awareness is one of harmonious presence.  Through the practice of meditation, we can witness the stream of thoughts that flow through our mind at any given moment without adding meaning or context to them.  Feeling beneath the thoughts will reveal a flow of awareness that requires nothing from us other than what we already are.  Thoughts cultivate complexity.  Awareness invites simplicity.

In order for an ordinary moment to become extraordinary, we must be willing to feel whatever arises, releasing judgment about what should or should not be happening.  Shutting down to experiences that have been difficult can also shut down the potential for blissful experience.  In our upcoming “Feast For the Senses” Yoga & Meditation Retreat in Hawaii for seven amazing days (September 30-October 7, 2012), we will dive into the reservoir of awareness that is always present within us and open to a level of aliveness natural to us in our youth.
